Netflix has been a very popular app and website that has been used to watch many TV shows and movies. According to Wikipedia, Netflix was founded on August 29,1997. It started off as a disc rental to subscribers and then added streaming; at first, subscribers could get one hour of streaming per dollar spent per month. As streaming quickly became more popular, the policy was changed in January of 2008, and users were able to stream for an unlimited amount of hours. Soon after that, Netflix split DVD rentals and steaming into two different subscriptions.

As of March 2017, Netflix has 1,197 TV shows and 4,335 movies on their mobile app/website. They have new and old shows and movies. Because of Netflix, more people have had a chance to find older shows that aren’t being shown on TV anymore. For example, House M.D. is a show about the best diagnostic doctor, but it stopped airing in May of 2012. Netflix also has recent shows that are still airing. One example is Once Upon A Time, which follows Emma, Snow White’s daughter, as she finds out about her true identity in a town called Storybrooke. Additionally, Netflix has started making and buying original shows and movies. An example is A Series of Unfortunate Events. This show is about three orphans who are on the run from a villain who wants to claim their inheritance. The Netflix original Stranger Things was one of the most-watched shows of 2016. It traced a boy who get sucked into a different reality and his friends who go to find him and end up meeting Eleven – a girl with supernatural powers.

With a little bit of something for everyone, Netflix is cementing its place in the entertainment industry.
