As anyone could have expected, most March Madness bracket predictions were busted early by low-seed upsets. The four biggest defeats occurred early in the second round, when Duke was upset by South Carolina, when Wisconsin upset Villanova, when Louisville was upset by Michigan, and when Xavier upset Florida State. Xavier also ended up beating Arizona 73-71. By this point, most bracket predictions were destroyed. One team in particular made school history and brought a brand new life on campus. South Carolina, who made the final four, had won their first second round, sweet sixteen, and elite eight games ever. They gave up a tough loss to Gonzaga in the final four. Other final four schools included Oregon and North Carolina. North Carolina ended up winning the whole thing by a score of 71-65 to Gonzaga. This was coach Roy Williams’s third national championship. North Carolina’s last championship appearance was in 2009. The 2017 March Madness tournament did not disappoint. Many players fulfilled their dreams this year. That is what makes the tournament so special.
